A comprehensive assessment of your oral health

The assessment performed by the dental hygienist includes:

• Your medical and oral health history;
• Vital signs;
• An extraoral examination of the head and neck;
• An intraoral examination including the lips, oral mucosa, frenula, hard and soft palate, oropharynx, tongue, floor of the mouth, salivary flow and edentulous ridges;
• An assessment of abnormalities, including collaboration with or referral to another oral health professional when needed;
• A periodontal assessment: risk of periodontal disease, bleeding on probing and contributing factors;
• An assessment of your personal oral care.
